Day 1 - Sydney - Mungo National Park-Mildura
Depart Sydney in the morning, overflying the western plains to Mungo National Park. Upon arrival we are taken out into the Park for a journey back into pre-history. Of special interest are the Walls of China, a huge wall of sand & mud that extends for 30kms & rises some 70 feet high. For those interested in aboriginal history the tour includes a visit to the 40,000 year old middens. Late afternoon we re-board the aircraft for the short flight into Mildura. Rockford Hotel (LD)
Day 2 Mildura-Wentworth-Mildura (by road)
This morning we board the historic PS Melbourne (a wood fired paddlesteamer) for a morning cruise through the Murray lock system and a light lunch. After lunch we visit an Italian Boutique winery-Oak Valley estate to sample wine & local produce before heading to Chateau Mildura birthplace of winemaking in the area. Tonight is a special treat with an Italian banquet at Stefano de Pieri’s.- a place of pilgrimage for gourmands! Rockford Hotel (BLD)
Day 3 Mildura-Marree - Lake Eyre - Marree (by road)
We depart early this morning for the flight over the Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound to Marree where we meet our guide Reg Dodd. Reg is a local aboriginal whose family are the traditional owners of the area. Today he conducts tours during the winter season, in the summer he represents the aboriginal community at the United Nations. To get to the lake we travel across the open plains of the Great Artesian basin, passing through the dingo proof fence. We spend the day in and around the lake, returning to Marree in the late afternoon. Before dinner we suggest you join the locals in the Public Bar for a cool beer. Marree Hotel (BLD)
Day 4 - Marree - Birdsville
The morning is free in Marree to explorer and join Reg Dodd and the Aboriginal Cultural Centre before lunch. Early afternoon the aircraft departs Marree and flies over both Lake Eyre North & South before heading to the iconic outback township of Birdsville. The remainder of the afternoon is taken up in and around the town, with a visit to the Working Museum and of course a drink at the Hotel. Birdsville Hotel (BLD)
Day 5 - Birdsville - Innamincka-Bourke
A morning flight from Birdsville to the isolated settlement of Innamincka for lunch and a cruise on the Cooper Creek. Mid afternoon we reboard the aircraft for the final flight of the day to Bourke. Riverside Motel (BLD)
Day 6 - Bourke - Sydney
This morning we board the PV Jandra for a short cruise on the Darling River before returning to tour around the historic inland port of Bourke. Late afternoon we re-board the aircraft for the flight to Sydney. (BL)
